Amanda Cornett shares examples of process flow diagrams from several MCH WDC participant statesTwo of CPHQ’s QI faculty members, along with other content experts from the National MCH Workforce Development Center, presented at the 2015 Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs (AMCHP) Annual Conference on January 24th

The first QI focused presentation featured speakers Patricia Bailey, Title V CYSHCN Director at the Mississippi Department of Health Children’s Medical Program, Amanda Cornett, Associate Director of CPHQ, Dr. Kori Flower, Senior Improvement Advisor at CPHQ and Donna Lindemulder, Chief of Population Health Management at the Illinois Department of Public Health.  Their presentation, "Using Quality Improvement Tools to Uncover the Root Causes of Health System Issues,” gave participants an overview of QI tools used to identify and address root causes of health system issues. The session also provided examples on how QI tools for root cause analysis have been used by state Title V programs in the National MCH Workforce Development Center and gave an opportunity for participants to practice using the QI tools and develop a plan to apply those tools in their Title V program.

“I enjoyed applying the concepts to real examples,” said a participant.  “It was helpful to see how QI works in the real world.”

The second QI-focused presentation featured speakers Kristen Hassmiller Lich, Assistant Professor in Health Policy and Management at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Public Health, and Amanda Cornett and Dr. Kori Flower from CPHQ.  Their presentation, "Using Process Flow Diagramming to Understand and Improve MCH Systems and Position Title V for Health Care Reform,” gave participants an overview of a process flow diagram, provided examples on how to apply the tools and helped each participant develop a plan to use these tools within their Title V program.
