Center Launching New QI Training for Rhode Island MIECHV Programs

The Center for Public Health Quality (CPHQ) is partnering with the Rhode Island Department of Health to develop and implement a Quality Improvement (QI) Training Program to increase the QI capacity of community agencies involved in the Department’s Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program (MIECHV).  According to CPHQ Senior Program and Operations Director, Beth Mainwaring, “This program is important because it will aid in improving home visiting and other early childhood services in Rhode Island, which will accelerate greater health outcomes for families served by MIECHV – we are thrilled to be partnering with the Rhode Island Department of Health in this work.”

By training MIECHV staff, the aim is to not only increase the capacity of the workforce to understand, select, and use QI methods and tools but to also foster a CQI culture in local agencies. Specifically, teams will be working on a project focused on either breastfeeding, greater family engagement, or maternal depression. The program will last six months and will consist of numerous webinars and two on-site workshops at the Rhode Island Department of Health.

Specific program goals include:

• 100% of QI projects initiated during the QI training program will achieve at least 50% of their goals,
• 85% of staff who participate in the training will be confident to conduct a QI project,
• 95% of staff who participate in the training will report they use QI tools in their daily work, and
• 95% of participants will be highly satisfied (5 or 6 on a 6 point scale) with the training.
