National Maternal and Child Health Workforce Development Center Kicks Off

The National Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Workforce Development Center held a kickoff meeting on December 19-20th in Chapel Hill, NC. Team members from each core area of the Workforce Development Center gathered from around the nation to launch the Center. Along with representatives from the Center for Public Health Quality (leading the QI core) and UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health (the lead organization), partners attending included the National Implementation Research Network, the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs, Boston University's Catalyst Center, the College of Public Health at the University of Kentucky, the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois in Chicago, Howard University and the National Academy for State Health Policy.
The kickoff meeting allowed the various core teams to share ideas, brainstorm and collectively discuss the critical deliverables and plans for the initiative. The MCH Workforce Development Center will provide workforce development for state Title V MCH program leaders and staff members in four key programmatic areas around implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) - access to care, quality improvement, systems integration and population health management. The overall goal is to prepare present and future maternal and child health workers with skills and knowledge to succeed in the public health system under the ACA.
