Wave 7 Teams Keep the QI Momentum Going During Workshop 1

Ten local health department teams (Bladen , Burke, Cabarrus, Carteret, Cumberland, Guilford, Haywood, Hoke, Madison, Northampton and) and the Rhode Island Department of Public Health participated in the Wave 7 Workshop 1 on November 7-8th.  This workshop focused on learning QI methods and tools to build effective teams, improve the efficiency of day-to-day operations and begin preparing for testing multiple change ideas in their local settings.

Prior to the workshop, teams participated in a pre-work phase consisting of three webinars that helped them to identify a QI project, focus on their overall goals and measurable objectives for the project, and to begin learning some of the basic QI methods and tools.

The teams were excited to learn about new tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of services they offer and hear how other health departments are progressing.  Teams were given "team time" to work with their QI coaches to answer questions and interact with other participants.

“I enjoyed the interactive activities throughout the presentations and the engagement between presenters and attendees,” said one participant.  “Overall the workshop did a great job of putting all the pieces together.”

Following the workshop, teams will participate in the action period phase where they will implement their QI plans and participate in an on-site rapid cycle improvement event, called a Kaizen.  Also during the action period, teams will participate in additional webinars to learn about several new QI tools, continue to exchange ideas with other teams, and receive coaching from faculty.
