Strengthening Oral Health Safety Net for Pregnant Women and Young Children

The Center for Public Health Quality has been awarded a grant from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation to partner with the NC Office of Rural Health & Community Care and the UNC School of Dentistry to conduct an Oral Health Learning Collaborative.  The collaborative aims to improve the efficiency and financial performance as well as access to oral health care for pregnant women and young children served by safety net clinics across North Carolina. The first phase of this initiative will provide training and technical assistance for 5 safety net clinics in western NC.  Collaborative goals include:

  • Improve the financial sustainability of safety-net dental clinics
  • Increase access to preventive oral health services for children 0-5
  • Increase access to oral health care for pregnant women
  • Increase medical-dental collaboration to improve oral health

Over a 15-month period, participating safety net clinics will receive assistance in implementing a broad clinic and community enhancement plan through the use of quality improvement methods and tools, coaching, distance and on-site technical assistance, and team based problem-solving.  Plans are now being made for additonal cohorts in the future.  For more information about how your community can benefit, This email address is being protected from spambots.
