Second Wave of Division of Public Health QI 101 Wraps Up with a Bang

On June 6-7th, the Center for Public Health Quality hosted Workshop 2 for the Division of Public Health (DPH) QI 101 Wave B cohort. This workshop commences the final phase in the sixth month long DPH QI 101 program for the five teams in this cohort. The five DPH teams consisted of participants from the Chronic Disease & Injury Section Operations,- Environmental Health Food Protection and Facilities Branch, Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program, Nutrition Services Administrative Review team and Women’s Health Branch.  The workshop focused on sharing lessons each team learned on their initial leg of their QI journey, celebrating achievements, gaining a deeper understanding of QI tools, learning how to sustain their projects, and spreading QI throughout their programs.

All participants were excited about learning more QI tools to kick start new projects and supporting the spread of continuous quality improvement (CQI) throughout their settings.  “Information followed by opportunities to practice is very effective,” said a DPH QI 101 participant.  “I liked having activities provoking thought on how to embed new skills into everyday practice to improve efficiency, productivity, etc.”

Going forward, each team will work on spreading and sustaining QI.  The Center will continue to be a resource for each team as they start new projects over the next six months.  Teams will also enroll 1-2 of their members in the Center’s QI Advisor Program, which provides them with advanced training so they can independently lead QI projects and Kaizen events as well as help their leaders spread continuous quality improvement (CQI) throughout their program.

Stay tuned for more information about an upcoming DPH QI 101 Celebration Event featuring the Wave B cohort!
