Celebration Event Shines the Spotlight on QI Accomplishments at the Division of Public Health

Colleagues exchanging QI ideas and information during the Celebration EventThe Center for Public Health Quality hosted a celebration event on November 6, 2012 to showcase some of the great QI progress and successes taking place at the Division of Public Health (DPH).  The event featured poster displays and presentations by DPH QI 101 Wave A participants.  Their overall project aims include:

  • Children and Youth Branch’s Early Hearing Detection Intervention team aimed to decrease the time it takes to complete the newborn hearing screening process for NC newborns and families.
  • Eastern AHEC aimed to increase the use of Electronic Health Records for referral tracking and follow-up by creating and testing tools to better equip and streamline Regional Extension Center staff.
  • Nutrition Services Branch aimed to improve the overall timeliness and efficiency of the update application process for the Child and Adult Care Food Program.
  • Office of Rural Health and Community Care aimed to increase, improve, and enhance communication focusing on recruitment and retention of providers serving in rural and underserved areas across the state.

Around 100 DPH employees gathered to view the displays, participate in educational games and enjoyed light refreshment all while learning and exchanging QI ideas with their colleagues.  Wave A teams also received awards for their hard work in the DPH QI 101 program, presented by Dr. Laura Gerald, State Health Director and Dr. Greg Randolph, Director of the Center for Public Health Quality.

“It was very exciting to see so many people from across the Division who are engaged in helping us make public health services more efficient and effective for North Carolinians,” said Dr. Laura Gerald, State Health Director.
