Beaufort County aims to improve the health and wellness outcomes of mothers and infants in Beaufort County by promoting breastfeeding among WIC clients at the Beaufort County Health Department.  Breastfeeding is associated with less incidence of illness in mothers and babies as well as increased maternal-child bonding.  Additionally, we would like to promote a culture of support for and encouragement of breastfeeding at the health department.  We will achieve this aim by using a comprehensive approach to reduce barriers that currently discourage WIC mothers from engaging in or sustaining long-term breastfeeding.
