New Hampshire QI 101 Participants Share their Tremendous Progress at Second Workshop

On February 6th-7th, the second New Hampshire QI 101 Program workshop launched with great energy and excitement.   Five QI teams from the New Hampshire Division of Public Health Services came ready to share their progress and learn as many new tools and methods CPHQ faculty could throw their way.

During the two days, participants learned how to continue building a collaborative learning environment, utilize run charts to display their data, developed a plan to begin testing multiple change ideas and created a strategy to successfully implement changes.  Teams also presented findings from their structured observations (called “Gemba Walks”) and value stream maps, which allowed them to walk through their process step-by-step and identify numerous areas for improvement.   Teams found these activities to be valuable in providing a “fresh perspective” and obtain feedback from other teams.

“The exercises were fun and very useful.” said one participant. “Giving the groups time to practice the exercise on their projects was very helpful.”

The next phase of the training program will be an “action period” to test numerous change ideas and implement those that are effective, followed by a final workshop on June 6th-7th.   The workshop will allow teams to learn additional QI tools and methods, reflect on their QI journey as well as celebrate successes, and learn tools to sustain their project and spread QI throughout their agency.
